Our self-learning program allows you to learn essential and auxiliary Lightspeed Saber fencing skills in the comfort of your own home and on your schedule. Counselors evaluate and guide your progress. Learn more about the program below and sign up at the link above— or, learn the material by yourself, completely free of charge.

PROGRAM DETAILS

The self-learning program is divided into units, with each unit containing 6-10 technical sequences for you to perform. You make a one-time payment and then have four months to complete the course. How fast you complete it is up to you. By the time you are finished, you should have a good command of the footwork, offensive movements, and defensive postures contained within.

Students learn the previously mentioned sequences and submit video of themselves performing them. Counselors grade them and provide feedback. Upon completion, students receive a certificate of completion, distinction, or excellence depending on their performance.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

This is a beginner program. While Lightspeed Saber borrows from a variety of technical lineages, this material most closely resembles what you might learn in basic Olympic fencing and Filipino escrima. So if you already have experience in these areas, this may be too basic for you.

WHAT IS THE SCOPE OF THE PROGRAm?

At this time there is only one unit within the program, designed for beginners. Future units will be increasingly complex. The program covers basic linear and lateral footwork, basic one and two handed attacks, and elementary defense.

OTHER QUESTIONS?

  • Is this designed for kids, teens, or adults?

    • The self-learning program is best-suited to adults.

  • What kind of saber should I get?

    • Indoors, we recommend a saber hilt around 10” long with a 2 ft blade. The blade should be 1” mid grade or 1” heavy grade. For more information on where to get a saber, visit our resources page.

    • For longer sabers, we recommended a midgrade or Lightspeed blade.

  • I have some injuries or disabilities. Can I do this?

    • If you have any major disabilities or significant knee, wrist, shoulder, or other joints problems, you might want to talk to us first.
