The deck the Brawls Tournament was held in Irving, Texas on December 10th, 2022. It was the smallest Texas Tournament to date since Dakota Eggert adopted the role of southern coordinator hosting only 10 combatants. Two of those combatants made their LSL tournament debut and they made sure to charge in head first. Xander from Kansas City put up a valiant fight in not only his tournament but his LSL debut to prove that rookies can play with the big dogs. Juan of Starbird was able to blow past the preliminary rounds despite it being his first tournament by using his advantageous reach to sling his blade out before his opponents could reach him. Only two fighters were eliminated after the preliminary rounds, leading to a few rematches in the elimination section of this combination tournament. In the first match, the second seed, Elias, used incredible parries and return assaults to thwart his opponent's every move. His skills and impregnable defense lead to him to a swift victory. The second match between Juan and Travis ended in a glorious exchange leading to a primary action ending the match in favor of Travis. The third match pitted the reigning champion, Kyle, against the assistant southern coordinator, Kat. Beautiful and flowing exchanges ensued between the friends ending with the reigning champion standing victorious to continue his incredible tournament. The final fourth match in the quarter finals was between the master of sword play, Russ and his student Troy. After beautifully placed lunges and displays of prowess, Russ came out on top. Leading into the semi-finals, the first match was between the first seed, Travis and the reigning champion, Kyle. Unfortunately, during the match both violated LSL standard rules multiple times and were red-carded during the match at the same time. This lead to both fighters ending their tournament there. This meant that our next semi-final match decided first place. The competitive duel between Russ, captain of Starbird and Elias, his most dangerous student, was a best of three for first. The classic duel of master and pupil had begun. In the first exchange, Russ pulled out victorious with both fighters displaying ravenous drive for victory. The second one, Elias won but showed why he is considered the most honorable fighter in the southern region by arguing for points to go to his opponent or his own point reductions. In the third and final bout, the pupil displayed the superior fencing to edge out his master from the title. He was then, in Texas LSL tradition, hoisted in the air to be paraded around amongst his peers.
